Styles and Influences

Rock

My musical roots go back to the Beatles, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Queen, Boston, Styx, Chicago, The Who, and the Eagles. Steve Howe was a major early influence on my guitar playing, particularly his versatility, melodic sensibility, and ability to blend different musical styles. Santana, Van Halen, Brian May, Joe Satriani, and Eric Johnson have been additional major influences.

Jazz

I entered the Jazz-Fusion world through John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, the work of Al Di Meola with Return to Forever, and the wonderful guitar playing of Alan Holdsworth. In the vein of traditional jazz guitar, I have listened to and studied the playing of Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Lee Ritenour, and Pat Metheny. Larry Coryell, Lee Ritenour, John Scofield, and Mike Stern have also been major influences.

Blues and Bluegrass

My blues influences include Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Duane Allman.

Several years ago, in an attempt to find an eastern sound, I discovered the mandolin, and along with it, Bluegrass. I quickly became a fan of such players as Adam Steffey, Mike Marshall, most especially Chris Thile. I have blended my mandolin playing with my electric guitar work to produce a bit of a unique sound.
